The Black Abbey -- Ironheart -- Supplement VI

The Black Abbey of St. Yessid

July 27, 2009

Concept: my "megadungeon" design based on the Mont St. Michel, in France. A village and abbey built on a very small island on top of the dungeon's entrance. The exploration itself will reveal as many clues as to the whereabouts of the denizens below as it will progressively turn the tables on the players' characters. It will, among other things, emphasize the dungeon as a Mythic Underworld concept as described by Philotomy Jurament on his OD&D Musings webpage.

Game system: Old-School Renaissance (OSR). Swords & Wizardry is my starting point. Whether it changes to another OSR system later on, or gets double/multi-stats, or some sorts of system-specific Appendices available for download on this or that website, is unknown at this point.

Status: Ongoing design (mapping and conceptual design).

Related design entries: Campaign Genesis, Take 2 (Citadel of Eight).

Samples and excerpts: none available at this point.

Product destination: OSR referees and fans of the mega-dungeon RPG concept (Castle Greyhawk/Zagyg, Temple of Elemental Evil, Undermountain, Rappan Athuk, Castle Whiterock, Dragon's Delve and many others come to mind).

Ironheart

July 27, 2009

Concept: Campaign setting for Iron Heroes. 12th-centry England, while Richard the Lionheart has gone to fight his Crusade. The Kingdom is slowly taken over by dark cults and evil-doers of all stripes served by monsters from beyond the Wall. Ogres and orcs serve Prince John as mercenaries and footmen. Norman knights ride wyverns and dragons. Clergymen worship horrors beyond of the Veil of the Night and seek to bring them back to this world. The populace lives under a murderous tyranny of noble madmen. Who will stand to save them? Who will keep England alive long enough for Richard to return?

Game system: Iron Heroes.

Status: Conceptual design.

Related design entries: none available at this point.

Samples and excerpts: none available at this point.

Product destination: Iron Heroes Players and DMs. Fans of alternate histories.
